Andreya Ouamba from Senegal returns to Woking to collaborate with UK-based Canadian Matthias Sperling to create an artistic dialogue across cultures inspired by the space and light of the contemporary architecture of The Lightbox.
This installation performance will be the culmination of a week’s residency working with southeast-based dance artists, exploring themes of dance as a universal language, whether each dancer has a special individual dialect or if there are conditions necessary to understand each other.
This commission is part of Woking Dance Festival’s Dance Dialogue programme, focusing on developing international relationships between African and UK-based artists.
The video clip shows part of the Diplomacy installation and finale improvisation.

Post Me_New ID Forum
This was the International media art festival CYNETart_08 held in Dresden, Germany. It hosted the forum “Post Me_New ID” from 31st October to 2nd November 2008.

Post Me_New ID examines the complexity of 21st century European identity through an exploration based on the effect of digital technologies of the body and identity.
Post Me_New ID practically explores the physical and digital social networking of creation processes for interdisciplinary artistic projects and envisions the artistic outputs of generations to come.
This project is a driver for a learning exchange and knowledge transfer in a diverse group of skilled experts. It brings together artists, curators, academics, psychologists, creative technologists and new media producers working in a value chain of shared expertise - from process to product and to the public.
The forum is planned as a platform for reflection on how we are creatively and socially engaged in digital networks, how we perform our online and offline identities, how we have become plural and variable post human bodies.
Post Me_New ID is a co-production between body>data>space (London, UK), CIANT | International Centre for Art and New Technologies (Prague, Czech Republic), TMA | Trans-Media-Academy Hellerau (Dresden, Germany) and Kibla (Maribor, Slovenia) supported by the European Union within the Culture 2007 Programme.

“We are asking ourselves >what is next?< applying the to-be-presented theories to our own cultural/art creating and networking practices”… says Ghislaine Boddington (United Kingdom), one of the forum organisers.
My Involvement in the Festival
I attended this forum with body>data>space, as a dance artist and project co-ordinator. I met some extremely fascinating people within the arts industry and found this a very valuable networking event for my future career in dance.
In the festival I was approached by Mika Satomi (Austria) to replace an ill performer for her piece called 'The Perfect Human.' The performance was inspired by Jorgen Leth's 1967 short film "The Perfect Human" and Lars von Trier's "The Five Obstructions" (2003). See below.
Joergen Leths Film
The performance was created for public spaces, using a motion-capture costume and portable radios. The technology within the costume established my role as an interpreter, mapping statements to my bodily expressions. These statements I created through the suit were then translated into spoken words, broad casted and played back through the surrounding radios in the space. The entire performance is built on improvisation and playing with the suit.
The intention of the piece is to create a sixth obstruction, by introducing the rule of performance and the rule of non-linear narration.

There is a marked space on the floor to encourage audience members to join in and explore the system of the motion capturing suit by mirroring the performer, allowing them to perform the role of the perfect human.

Virtual Physical Bodies
Centre Des Arts, Enghien Les Bains, Paris
October 2008

body>data>space have curate this exciting exhibition exploring question of the virtual/physical body and public spaces, looking at how innovative and emerging technologies can change and modify a new generation body into our real and daily lives. body>data>space collective with collaborators; Michael Takeo Magruder and Ivor Diosi.
With the Centre Des Arts, this collaboration proposes to think about various scripts where the body is filmed, imagined, pixellated, modelled and animated into real daily environments – into architecture, the city and this exhibition. Through installations and multimedia displays, this exhibition is a reflection about the body, within live presence, utopia and fantasy.

MPT: The Big Freeze
The Hide 'n' Seek Festival, The Southbank, London
June 2008
On 28 June, London was transformed. The banks of the river became flooded with hundreds of people, all waiting for the signal to freeze. The largest freeze yet to descend on London.
Not frozen but poised, and ready to play big games with passers by and the community.
Coney and body>data>space organised this great event for the festival, sent out through Myspace, Facebook, word of mouth, people could sign up to as much or as little as they wanted via the internet. Each person was asked to bring a prop or maybe wear a colour to the groups they picked from the red adventures to the yellow movers.
As project co-ordinator for this project I lead a yellow snake of people along the Southbank, down to play Grandmothers footsteps in Jubilee Gardens, with a final clock chime from Big Ben.

Crewe Railway Station
Platforms 12 &13
May / June / September 2008
May / June / September 2008
The beginning of this project took place in May, at the Oblate Retreat Centre , Crewe. It was a six day residential retreat that allowed 18 dance artists the time and space to reflect and deepen their approaches to site based dance work, alongside creating work for the performance due in September.
Body Cartography; Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad; came together with Cheshire Dance's Dance Director, Jacqueline McCormick and USA-based master practitioner in Yoga, Trisha McAvoy to take dance artists, facilitators and practitioners on a journey.

Research and Development Week
Following on from Pollen8, we gathered together for a week in June, this week included a number of visits to the station where investigations of the site took place. We spent time collecting information from passengers and staff, collected pedestrian movements off the public; in a rush to catch the train or waiting. Spending time on our own collecting movement from architecture and sounds that occurred in the train station and really clarifying each motif.
We collected large amounts of information by the end of the week, to remember and put into use for September.
The Pollen8 artists had increased their knowledge of the site and facilitators had roots to begin work with there youth & community groups.

Some of the artists gathered to take part in the filming process for the Installations. This took place at Cheshire Gardens for the film installations.
Station/ Stationary: The Performance: 25-29th September
The world premiere of Station/ Stationary finally fell upon us all and it was truly successful. Cheshire Dance, The Body Cartography Project and up to 100 performers redefined and explored Crewe Railway Station.
This performance was to encourage audiences and commuters alike to reengage their sensory curiosity in this regional gateway through performance and installation works.

It was broadcasted on North West BBC news on the 25th September;
Dancing Room on the Platform, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7636751.stm
and became part of the Cultural Olympiad.

(It gives you an idea, not the best quality)
"Station/Stationary is probably the most ambitious performing arts project ever to be undertaken at a railway station in this country."
