Joseph's project builds on experience with the Kinect and related technologies, and previous work in telematics. It will consist of ‘portal’ installations in four cities across Europe, which will connect users in each space through real-time motion capture, projecting their 3D ‘shadows’ into a creative collaborative space. The project will work in close collaboration with the partner organisations through a series of residencies with each, culminating in the presentation of the finished project at the Bains Numeriques festival in June 2012.

I was involved in this project on the 2nd Residency working with body>data>space and the National Theatre at The National Theatre Studio.

Me and My Shadow was definitely something new to get my head around, by having elements of telepresence in the software gave us the dancers a head start into understanding the technology behind the Kinect.

In this residency I lead the rehearsal direction. We began by exploring and playing with the Kinect software, learning the navigation properties and what various elements mean when playing in a virtual world. Once we had a better understanding of the software we began creating sequences that we could play with in the virtual world and leave traces of our bodies behind. There was also the element of being able to find our live selves and moments where we could find each other in the virtual world, and have moments of connectivity live as well as play with past images.



This residency ended with a process showing at the NTS, with a feedback session afterwards. The next residency will be in Belgium and the final outcome will be shown and open for the public to explore at The National Theatre Foyer in June.

MADE is the initiative of four leading European Digital Arts organisations, Centre des Arts (France), body > data > space (London), BoDig (Turkey) and Transcultures (Belgium).

Hansel and Gretel and The Gingerbread Man

Sasha is currently researching and developing a new project of her own, using her various skills as an individual artist, company manager and choreographer of Anomic Multimedia Theatre, and associate artist of Body>Data>Space, she plans to make a new children’s production of Hansel and Gretel and The Gingerbread Man. The production will focus on physical theatre, dance, storytelling, music and projected technology.

Anomic is now in the process of researching and developing a new devised piece called Leave only footprints showcasing in London.

Leave only footprints is a developmental piece investigating the contemporary subculture of urban exploration through notions of abandonment and decay, the living and the dead, portrayed through challenging movement and projections.

Hi all... I am now the associate artist of Anomic Multimedia Theatre, this is a NEW Company by Award-Winning Dan Shorten, co-founder of Precarious!

The last few months have been rather hectic from tour bookings to marketing to manic rehearsals and a whole lot more!!

This heartfelt story laments the central characters journey from banality through love to despair. At once witty and melancholic the story explores the tragic decisions, unsettling circumstances and extreme emotions which lead the protagonist to the most profound and disturbing decision of his life. 50 inch televisions and projectors create a giant wall of video as a backdrop for the live action. anomie opens in Bristol, then hits Edinburgh Festival!
Precarious Physical Theatre and Multimedia are back with a powerfully engaging new show that is tipped to surpass the success of previous smash hits ‘The Factory’ and ‘Druthers’. Bristol locals can see the exclusive previews before the show goes to Edinburgh at the Tobacco Factory on 30th and 31st July.

Intense, provocative, delicate and comic, anomie is a hypnotic and surreal journey that traces the fractured pathways and phantom connections between six anomie plagued characters, all inhabiting the same apartment building, yet unaware of each others trials, tribulations and deviant behaviour.

Exploring how the erosion of traditional moral standards and personal values can result in social instability, Precarious combine breakneck physicality, stunning imagery and cutting-edge technology, to present a portrait of modernity that will disturb and delight audiences.

Bains Numeriques Festival, June 09

Enghien Les Bains, Paris



On 5th June, the town of Enghien-les-Bains will be transformed.
Using all five senses you are invited to follow from the railway
station, through the streets, to the church and the market,
discovering the town’s joie de vivre. At a given moment
(you’ll know when), be ready to FREEZE wherever you are and become a living statue, silent and still as your senses soak in the spirit of the town. Keep your eyes, ears, noses and taste buds alert for the clues that will tell you what is happening next.



The aim of the project was for myself and Vesna Grandes to co-produce the site specific performance, to be held in different areas of Enghien Les Bains with a VIP showing in the 'Dansoir.'



We also contributed in delivering the educational packs to the schools within Enghien Les Bains based on movement exercises about the senses in which teachers could deliver to the young people.




This event is co-concieved and co-created by body>data>space(London)and Coney (London/anywhere) and is produced by body>data>space in Association with Centre des Arts (Enghien-les-Bains); In collaboration with Solar Associates (London).
body>data>space and Coney first collaborated on a Freeze event in a commission by the Hide and Seek Festival 2008(London).


The video will hopefully follow shortly...as well as my near miss with an impatient french motorbike...we shall see.

A Brutal Life to A Brutal End

In 2006 I created a site specific piece and an inspirational film based on the political conflict between Nato and Serbia. I explored the way it affected the community through my own personal reflections of what I remembered as a child, through BBC footage and newspaper articles. I have even incorporated my father’s voice in Serbo-Croatian and the translation in English from myself, which runs through the soundtrack.

A Brutal Life to A Brutal End - a small exerpt of the solo.

As the choreographer and dancer of this project I understand the connection between the very brutal film footage and the emotional solo performance. However if I was to really connect my work to the film in an political perspective, I would have developed the movement material into a more innovative and exciting context, creating a site specific group piece in a urban landscape. (Preferably in the heart of Belgrade where it was bombed.)

Summer Time! 2009

I am looking forward to the Summer Time, as this is the location of where I would like to create a new dance film. I am currently researching and developing my ideas to create an innovative and exciting piece, which will devour this strange land.

The concept of (in)grained was to investigate the textures, prints, and grains left by the human body and nature. We researched into the works of Alwin Nikolais exploring the psyche behind a more animalistic behaviourism and delving into Stelarc's 'Technological Body.'

This piece went on tour in 2007, I hope to re-explore the piece on a bigger scale in the future.

The Woman and The Machine (2009)

Is a story about the hidden secret between 'The Woman and The Machine.' A young lonely widow loses her husband in WW2, and as she goes on in life without him, she conceives from her unconscious mind to design a machine…

The character I will be performing as will be ‘Future Eve,’ a dancer that resembles woman being controlled by everyday machines. I am researching and developing movement material which relates to my character and working closely with the producer Miguel Almagro.

I am looking forward to collaborating with the rest of the cast and to start filming ‘The Woman and The Machine.’

Stan Wijnans: MuDanx

MuDanx is the Interactive Performance Art & amp; Technology laboratory founded by Stan Wijnans. MuDanx is specialized in developing the artistic and technical stages of interactive/responsive movement and multi media performances that aim to apply cutting edge new technologies to enhance the artistic environment.

I recently worked with Stan Wijnans in the final stages of her PhD at Bath Spa University. We worked with motion sensing equipment to see; how the dancer’s body can interact with technology and create music through the use of sensors.

I felt that as a performer it was a great way of creating and developing sound for dance, especially with the use of surround sound. When we combined the dancers body with sensors and the sound equipment into the space, we found ourselves creating musical chords, playing with low and high pitches and exploring different rhythms and dynamics. This was only a small proportion of what we explored and improvised within the space. To enable this equipment to work five sensors are placed on the dancers body; one on the head, one in each hand and one on each foot. It was an interesting research project which came out with lots of positive outcomes and inspiring ways of making sound.
